Just when you thought that Epcot’s Innoventions is all but dead, comes news from our sources that a science exhibit will soon be joining Innoventions East. The attraction will be occupying the space known as the VISION HOUSE, or better known by most before that, The House of Innoventions. Expect this addition to show up in the November/December time frame right before the holidays.
One by one, attractions at Innoventions had been closing as agreements with the sponsoring hosts came to an end. Now Colortopia is the only active concept in both wings, with the Take a Nanooze Break holding up the space between Colortopia and the doorway. There are still meet ‘n’ greet character experiences where Inventions West stood, but nothing that was of the caliber or type associated with Innoventions or the previous Communicore.
This is still considered a temporary addition, as long term planning (shown by the Future World aerial at D23) indicate that this entire building structure will eventually be removed sometime in the future. Part of the reason for that is that resources are really going to big new attractions that tie into Disney’s intellectual property. But another more basic reality is that the roof structure is going, and the buildings do not seem to be worth saving in the long run.
One side effect of that is that it may be easier to access attractions like The Seas with Nemo and Friends as well as the new Guardians of the Galaxy attraction going in place of The Universe of Energy. The buildings really forced you to go around to get from one place to another. Now it may be easier to get from place to place.
