Guide to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

X Wing Fighter at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

Bright Suns, travelers! I’m here to take you through Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! I absolutely LOVE Star Wars and Galaxy’s Edge is one of my favorite places to visit when I go to Disney World. I first visited in 2019 shortly after it opened and I fell in love. The attention to detail, as well as the sights, the food, and the thrills are all amazing.  Hopefully this guide to Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge will help you make the most of your visit.

On my first visit to Galaxy’s Edge, I rope dropped and was lead in by Stormtroopers and they took us to Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios through the Grand Avenue entrance. When you go through it this way, you get to see the Batuu scenery and Star Wars props on the path into the marketplace area. (For Disneyland Park, entering through Critter Country allows you to see the scenery before the marketplace.) You’ll pass by a Resistance X-Wing and the entrance to Rise of the Resistance. There are also a number of photo opportunities and even Disney Photopass photographers along this path.

Once you get into the marketplace, you have two paths to take. You can go up the stairs and into the shopping area or you can go towards the speeder and droid display. I choose to go towards the droid display to get the best view of the Millennium Falcon when I walk in. On this path, there are a number of speeders and droids to see and take pictures with. You also walk right by a Tie Echelon Fighter, which is super cool. If you continue on the path, you’ll walk right by Oga’s Cantina and then on to see the Millennium Falcon. Definitely stop here for a photo-op.

The Rides:

Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run

Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run puts you in the pilot’s seat as you head to Han Solo’s home planet of Corellia to help Hondo Ohnaka obtain coaxium containers from a First Order train by borrowing the Millennium Falcon from Chewbacca. There are 6 seats in the cockpit, 2 pilots, 2 gunners, and 2 engineers. Pilots fly the Falcon, gunners take out First Order tie fighters, and engineers repair the ship. Everyone needs to work together as a team to obtain as many coaxium containers as possible. It’s a really awesome immersive experience. Check out all of the cool things in the queue while you’re waiting to board the Falcon.

Rise of the Resistance

Rise of the Resistance puts you in the action as you help the Resistance on a secret mission against the First Order. You’ll see some familiar faces and join Rey and BB-8 while you escape from Kylo Ren and General Hux on a First order star destroyer. There is a little bit of a drop to this one, but it’s not a big one.  This ride a fully immersive and is actually quite long (clocking in at 18 minutes) and the visual effects are outstanding. It’s exciting and fun!

Things to do:

Droid Building at the Droid Depot:

If you want to create your own little droid friend, check out the droid building activity at the Droid Depot. My kids and I made our own droids on our last visit and we had a great time! After you check in (reservations are highly recommended), you’ll pay for your experience at the counter. This is where you can choose from extra paid options, such as a personality chip and a special bag to carry your new friend in. Prices for the droid building start at $99.99 (plus tax). The personality chips give your droid a new sound and fun personality. Once you pay, you are given a basket and any extras you purchased and you go and pick out our droid pieces. Both styles (R-series and BB-series) have 4 pieces that you have to grab off of the conveyor belt. You can mix and max colors for the pieces your unit requires. After you have picked out your pieces, you are directed to a workstation where you will construct your droid. There are instructions on the mat and there is a cast member there to help you if needed. You’ll be able to test out your droid to make sure everything is working properly and then you’re all set. This experience takes about 30 minutes to complete. For each reservation, there is a builder and a guest allowed. The guest may not build the droid. Children are required to be accompanied by an adult. One super cool thing about the droids that I wasn’t aware of prior to building, is that there are points around the park where your droid will interact with their surroundings. It was so cool to see my droid moving its head around and “talking” when I walked by these points in Galaxy’s Edge.

Savi’s Workshop:

Savi’s Workshop offers an incredible lightsaber building experience. You get to choose from 4 different hilt themes and you get a matching cloisonné pin. You’ll also get to choose a kyber crystal to go with your lightsaber, there are 4 colors to choose from. Once you are ready to begin assembling, you’ll get a basket with a bunch of parts to choose from. After you have customized your parts, the Gatherers will connect your hilt to a 31” lightsaber blade and your lightsaber is ready to go! This experience is $219.99 per lightsaber and one builder and one guest are allowed. There are additional customization items available for purchase at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities.

Food & Drinks:

No Guide to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge would be complete if we didn’t talk about food!

The food and drinks at Galaxy’s Edge are interesting, yet so good. Docking Bay 7 is a quick service restaurant that is open for lunch and dinner and features beef stir-fry, pork ribs, and a few chicken dishes. There are also kid-friendly options available. Moof juice, which is fruit punch, orange and pineapple juice, and chipotle pineapple is also super yummy and kid approved. For the adults, the Takodana Quencher features Bacardi Dragon berry Rum, Blue Curaçao, orange and pineapple juice, and kiwi. It’s really, really good and super refreshing on hot days. Ronto Roasters is also a quick service restaurant and features wraps, overnight oats, and pork rinds. Rontos Roaster is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Check out Kat Saka’s Kettle for some delicious popcorn. The outpost mix is a blend of sweet and spicy and it’s so good! There are also cart and stalls around Galaxy’s Edge that sell Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, and bottled water that feature the Star Wars language, Aurebesh. The soda bottles also look just like thermal detonators and make super fun souvenirs.

Oga’s Cantina is a lounge that cannot be missed. There are a number of delicious non-alcoholic and adult beverages to choose from. They are all carefully crafted and wonderfully themed. My kids really enjoy the Hyperdrive drink that features Powerade Mountain Berry Blast, white cranberry juice, Sprite, and black cherry puree. They’ve requested that I make this at home, so you know they loved it. My personal favorite is the Bespin Fizz, which is Bacardi Superior Rum, pomegranate juice, yuzu puree, white cranberry juice, and a cloud swirl. There’s dry ice in a compartment at the bottom of the glass and edible glitter mixed into the drink, so it has a cloud effect. It looks pretty and tastes great! If you want to splurge on a souvenir, try out the Yub Nub. It’s a mixture of Malibu Pineapple, Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, citrus juices, and passion fruit that is served in a super cute Endor Mug. Of course, I got one and it is proudly displayed in my Star Wars themed home office. Oga’s also has a couple of snack options available if you are feeling a little hungry. Oga’s Cantina is mostly standing tables, but there are a few booths that you’ll share with another party.

The Milk Stand features blue and green milk. The blue milk has a fruity taste and the green milk has a tropical fruit/citrus taste. I think both are great, but I do prefer the blue over the green. There’s also the Toydaria Swirl, which is green milk swirled with a fruit sauce, mango jellies, and is topped with a chili lime seasoning. At Disney World, there are versions of the milk with alcohol. The milks at the milk stand are rice and coconut milk based and are safe for travelers who are lactose intolerant.

Shopping:

There are a few shops in the Batuu marketplace to check out. There’s the Creature Stall where you can adopt your own Star Wars creature, such as a bantha, porg, wampa, or tauntaun. Toydarian Toymaker features a variety of stuffed toys of favorite Star Wars characters. Black Spire Outfitters has costumes for sale, both for children and adults. Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities sells a lot of collectible items, as well as fun toys such as Jedi and Sith holocrons, costumes, jewelry, and housewares. First Order Cargo has all of your First Order needs with toys and apparel. Resistance Supply stand as fun items for the Rebels in your group.

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge transports you directly into the world of Star Wars and it’s simply amazing. There’s something for everyone and so many memories to be made. Sometimes, you’ll catch a glimpse of Chewbacca, Rey, and Kylo Ren. The Stormtroopers are at various points around Galaxy’s Edge and love to make comments about the guests. It’s definitely one of my favorite parts of visiting Disney Parks.
