When to Visit Walt Disney World: A Guide for First Timers

What is a Monorail Resort?

There are three deluxe resorts at Walt Disney World that have access to the monorail; Just one of the many complimentary public transportation systems on Walt Disney World property. Staying at a deluxe resort means that guests are offered the best amenities on Disney property including multiple sit-down restaurants, multiple pools, character dining, etc. The three monorail resorts are:

• Disney’s Contemporary Resort
• Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
• Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

This futuristic train in the sky has the ability to transport guests to not one, but two of the theme parks at Walt Disney World.

Magic Kingdom is on the main Monorail loop and just minutes from the resorts listed above.

Guests also have the ability to take the monorail to Epcot by transferring monorail trains at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC).

Six Benefits to Staying at a Monorail Resort

Okay, you have an idea of what the monorail is and which resorts offer the form of transportation, but why should you stay at a monorail resort when there are so many other resort options at Walt Disney World?

1. Ease of Transportation: As stated above, the monorail is the fastest form of transportation, sending guests to the parks with little to no wait time. There is no better feeling on your vacation than knowing you can leave your resort room and be at Magic Kingdom in only a few short minutes.
2. Perfect for all ages: As a mom of a toddler, the last thing I want to do at the end of my park day is wait 20 minutes for a bus with a very hot and tired two-year-old. Traveling with kids on the monorail means you can roll the stroller on without worrying about frantically folding it up. And if you are traveling with guests using a scooter, those easily roll onto the monorail as well.
3. Security Lines: Did you know the monorail resorts have their own security lines, metal detectors, and bag checks prior to monorail boarding? This means you can skip the security lines at the theme parks and walk straight up to the turnstiles to enjoy your Disney day.
4. Extended Evening Theme Park Hours: Twice a week, deluxe resort guests (including monorail resort guests) have the opportunity to stay at Magic Kingdom and Epcot for an extra two hours. This extra time in the parks means less time waiting in lines for rides, and you can finally snap that picture of the castle without a crowd of people around.
5. View of the Fireworks: Staying at a monorail resort means you will have a view of Cinderella’s castle from your resort across the bay. Want to avoid the masses but still see the fireworks? Head back to your resort, grab a sweet treat, and enjoy!

Staying at a monorail resort allows you to make the most of your Disney World vacation and limits the unnecessary stress of relying solely on bus transportation. As a Disney guest who has personally stayed at two of the three monorail resorts, it is difficult for me to stay anywhere else knowing all the perks that come with staying at a monorail resort.
